Very Rare 1800s Bills of Sale (Rice & Thompson) Wabash Ave. Chicago - $65 (Grass Lake)

The first, dated 1881, was sent from the C.F. Rice Co., specializing in picture frames, to a customer in Csssapolis, MI. In the bottom corner of the bill is some pencil math, the way people used to figure out costs back in the day. Rice’s shop was located on 220 Wabash.
The second bill is also from 1881 from a business located nearby on 259 Wabash. The bill is for $17.68. This company was headed by Hiram J. Thompson, also specializing in moldings, frames, and mirrors at the time. The bill was sent to a Matt Barber of Cassapolis, MI.
Apparently, Rice and Thompson joined forces, based on the third bill of sale from 1885. The bill is from Rice and Thompson on 259 Wabash, for $27.19, also to Matt Barber of Cassapolis.
Because they have been stored in envelopes in a dry environment, these three bills of sale have somehow survived 140+ years without being damaged or stained. They’re a great piece of Chicago business history.
